Tips from L'Image Plano Master Stylist James Burns as seen on CBS 11 with Mattie Roberts

"Hair Tips According to Face Shape" from August 13, 2005 show

Rasa - long face shape

1) Added shorter layers around face to add fullness to the sides
2) Long side swept fringe adds interest to the eyes and breaks up the length of the forehead
3) Very little volume on top so the length isn't a focus
4) Perimeter length is kept above the shoulders to add a fuller effect to the face

Tonya - heart shaped face

1) Heavy layering around the bottom section of the hair adds movement and fullness to the lower portion of the face
2) Sides of the hair are kept less full around the cheekbones to draw the attention away from that area
3) Side swept fringe draws attention to the eyes and to the center of the face
4) Some fullness on top helps to round out the face shape

Kina - round face shape

1) Fullness on top helps to elongate the face and draw the eye upward
2) Long, side swept fringe helps to lengthen the overall shape of the face and bring the focus away from the cheek area
3) Long layers add a sense of movement to the style and help to elongate the shape even more

General tips for all face shapes

1) Fullness on top is good for most face shapes except the long face shape; it also adds an overall lift to the style and body shape
2) Always emphasize the areas that you like and downplay the areas that you don't by adding layers and movement to draw the eye to the towards your best features (i.e., lips, eyes)
3) Keep the length of the hair in proportion to your face shape - the viewing eye will travel where the ends of the hair are pointing so use that knowledge to your advantage
4) Soften any sharp face angles with layering
5) Take all factors into consideration when choosing a hairstyle - body shape, face shape, lifestyle
6) Don't follow trends, choose a style that works for you and that focuses on your best features and you will be much more satisfied with your new look
7) Have some fun with your style - it's your image, let your true self shine, hair is nothing to fear
